An Air Canada flight that was on route from Vancouver to Winnipeg has been diverted to Regina due to a “declared emergency.”

According to the Regina International Airport’s Twitter, the aircraft made a landing at the terminal and emergency responders rushed to the site.

Angela Mah, Air Canada spokesperson, explains that the landing was made “due to reports of smoke coming from a galley oven.”

“As per our standard operating procedures, the crew diverted to the nearest airport as a precaution.”

Photos and videos uploaded to social media also show fire crews approaching and inspecting the plane.

“The aircraft landed normally, was met by airport response vehicles as per standard procedure, and taxi’d to the gate under its own power where the 146 passengers disembarked normally,” says Mah. “Another aircraft and crew is being dispatched to Regina to complete the flight, which will be approximately 6 hours late arriving to Winnipeg.”

No injuries have been reported at this point and in the meantime, Air Canada members have ordered pizza for the stranded travellers as they await their replacement flight.
