US zoos and aquariums offering livestreams during coronavirus pandemic
A majority of media coverage regarding the COVID-19 pandemic is negative, understandably so as it is a global issue significantly impacting the lives of every person on the planet.
However, sometimes we just need something to raise our spirits, and what better way to do that than to watch videos of adorable animals?

The Cincinnati Zoo issued a statement on its Facebook page encouraging users to join them for a “Home Safari” Facebook Live stream every weekday from 3 pm EDT.
“Let us help make your childrenās hiatus from school fun and educational,” the post reads.
Each livestream will feature one of the facility’s wonderful animals as well as a corresponding activity that viewers can engage in at home.
For the inaugural stream taking place on Monday, March 16, the first guest of honour will be Fiona the hippo.
Other facilities are embarking on similar initiatives, including the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California, which is providing live cam footage for those wishing to admire the wonders of their various marine creatures.
“Watch and learn, then watch some more — even when we’re closed,” the company advertises on its website.
“Experience the wonder of the ocean from anywhere. Choose a live cam and be mesmerized by moon jellies or see how many sevengill sharks you can spot.”

The site provides multiple webcams for viewers to indulge in, including a Kelp Forest Cam, Jelly Cam, Aviary Cam, and Penguin Cam, as well as many others.
Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois has also been updating its social media with adorable behind-the-scenes peeks at what their animals are up to, including one adorable video of a penguin exploring the zoo for himself and visiting some of his neighbours.

Many other zoos also offer webcam footage of their animal tenants, including the Smithsonian National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute, which provides live footage of their naked mole rats, lions, giant pandas, and elephants.
Additionally, the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park has an abundance of live feeds to choose from that are sure to boost your spirits, including footage of the rambunctious baboons, cuddly koalas, and gorgeous giraffes.
