The funniest reactions to today's mobile alert system test

Nov 27 2019, 10:03 pm

Canada was unified this afternoon as citizens across the country received a unique sound on their mobile devices (at least you were supposed to).

Publicly branded as Alert Ready, wireless providers sent out a mobile alert to every device connected to an LTE network, as well as through radio airwaves, TVs, and social media channels to test the new National Public Alerting System, which sounded similar to a siren.

Examples of the types of alerts that are issued through the Alert Ready system in the future could include natural disasters like tornados and earthquakes or a civil emergency, like Amber Alerts.

Canadians took to the Internet to react to the national news in the best way we know how: jokes, memes, GIFs, and one-liners as #EmergencyAlert and #AlertReady were trending on Twitter this afternoon — especially given that Alberta’s alerts seemed to have the wrong date.

Sound the alarms, here are the Twitterverse’s best reactions to the mobile alert system test from Alberta.
