Trudeau participating in virtual concert demanding vaccine equity

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be joining a number of celebrities to participate in a global concert taking place next month.

On Saturday, May 8, Global Citizen will host VAX LIVE: A Concert to Reunite the WorldThe virtual concert will be available to stream worldwide and is calling on government leaders to commit to vaccine equity and help reduce vaccine hesitancy.

“We are calling on world leaders to step up and make sure vaccines are accessible for all so we can end the pandemic for everyone, everywhere,” Global Citizens says. “More than 1 billion doses have been administered worldwide, but low-income nations continue to lag behind due to inequitable access to vaccines and a surge in daily coronavirus cases.”

The 90-minute broadcast will be hosted by Selena Gomez and will feature performances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, the Foo Fighters, J Balvin, and H.E.R.

In addition to Trudeau, appearances will also be made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are Campaign Chairs of the event, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, France President Emmanuel Macron, and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

“We can’t leave anybody behind. We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement.

“We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity. This mission couldn’t be more critical or important.”

Additional celebrity appearances will be made by Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel, Olivia Munn, and Sean Penn.

The concert can be streamed on YouTube, as well as a number of radio and television broadcast partners.
