Wednesday is Canada Post's holiday deadline for regular packages
With December well underway, Canada Post is reminding its customers of some important deadlines.
The company says that Wednesday, December 11 will be the cutoff date to ensure that gifts and packages sent to family and friends across Canada are received in time for the 2019 holiday season.
In order to ensure holiday delivery of cards and packages sent after Wednesday, customers will be required to pay for Xpresspost or Priority mail, which can be more costly in some cases.
The deadline for regular packages being sent to the United States, Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world has already passed, so anyone looking to guarantee holiday delivery will also be required to pay for Xpresspost or Priority mail.
Canada Post notes, however, that deadlines for items that are purchased online will depend on the company and their individual shipping guidelines.
According to Valérie Chartrand, a spokesperson at Canada Post, the company’s holiday delivery plans are in “full effect.”
“Our plants have been running at capacity 24/7 to process parcels, packets and mail,” she adds. “We’ve also hired nearly 3,800 seasonal employees to help in processing and delivering this holiday season. That’s on top of more than 50,000 employees serving the customer in delivery, processing, and retail.”
Naturally, Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping brought heavy shipping volumes to Canada Post. Chartrand notes that to keep up with orders, employees began weekend deliveries as far back as early November.
“We are on pace to continue an average of 1.4 million or more parcels a day,” says Chartrand. “Our holiday goal is always to make sure everything arrives in time for Christmas.”
