The average cost of rent in Canadian cities for October (MAP)
The cost of rent in several cities across Canada has seen an upward trend in October, thanks to an “incredibly hot market right now,” according to the latest report from PadMapper.
Overall, 15 cities experienced a rise in rental costs, four saw a downward trend, and five remained stable.

“The three cities with the largest monthly one bedroom rental growth rates, all above 5%, were in Ontario, signalling an incredibly high demand present in this province.”
The top four priciest markets in Canada remained unchanged from last month while Victoria, BC, knocked out Barrie for the fifth spot.

Once again, Toronto took the top spot for the most expensive rent in the country. One bedrooms stayed flat at $2,300 and two bedrooms jumped 0.3% to $3,000.
In Vancouver, one bedroom rent drop 1.4% to $2,170, while two bedrooms grew 0.9% to $3,230.
Burnaby, BC, had the largest monthly one bedroom rental growth rate in the top five markets, up 4.8% to $1,730. Two bedrooms increased 1.3% to $2,300.
Montreal stayed idle at fourth place. One bedroom rent increased 2.7% to $1,540, while two bedrooms had a more drastic growth rate, climbing 5% to $1,890.
Victoria, BC rounded off the top five markets with one bedroom rent jumping 3.6% to $1,450 and two bedrooms staying flat at $1,720. Notably, on a year over year basis, one bedroom rent is up 16%.
The cheapest rent in Canada this month can be found in St. John’s, where one bedroom rent costs $800 and a two bedroom goes for an average of $860.
