Alberta health officials confirmed 13 new coronavirus cases and one more death Saturday afternoon.

The new cases bring the province’s active case count to 616.

Since the start of the pandemic, Alberta has seen 6,992 coronavirus cases. The majority have been found in the Calgary zone.

Saturdays’ new death raises Alberta’s coronavirus death toll to 143.

Alberta also reported more recoveries Saturday. There are now 6,245 people in the province who have cleared their coronavirus infection.

This week, Alberta made coronavirus testing available to everyone in the province whether or not they have symptoms. The province hopes expanded testing will allow health officials to further understand the virus’ impacts which will inform reopening decisions.
