Alberta confirms 42 more coronavirus cases but no new deaths

Alberta recorded 42 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, up from the 18 new cases recorded the day before.

These new cases bring Alberta’s number of active infections to 801, which is actually 13 fewer active infections compared to Saturday because more people have also recovered.

Alberta has seen a total of 6,860 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.

Nobody died from the virus in the last 24 hours, so Alberta’s death toll remains at 135.

The province says its hospitalization rates remain low, with 46 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Sunday. Of those, six are in intensive care.

Starting on Monday, May 25, Alberta will begin offering coronavirus testing to all staff and residents at long-term care homes even if they’re asymptomatic.

Several other health services will also resume Monday, including non-urgent surgeries that require a hospital stay.
