Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know by now that 19-year-old Ontario native Bianca Andreescu was victorious against Serena Williams at the US Open this weekend.
However, it seems that result wasn’t the one the Toronto Star was anticipating, according to a news alert that was sent out moments after Andreescu’s victory:
Of course, this is not what happened.
Andreescu defeated 23-time major champion Williams and stopping her from tying Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24.
She won in straight sets: 6-3, 7-5.
An article with the proper results ( which came courtesy of the New York Times) was soon published on The Star’s website following the mix-up.
However, we all know that the internet never forgets and those who caught the error were quick to point it out.
Shame on you Toronto Star! Why would you not only write something like this, but send it out?! @TorontoStar #TorontoStar #Bianca #USOpen pic.twitter.com/owjregcD9X
