There's an epic food and wine festival happening on this BC mountain

Feb 7 2020, 5:18 pm

Let’s be real, food and wine festivals are the best type of festival. Can you think of a more fun event to attend than one where you get to eat and drink all day long? It’s the perfect excuse to get together with your friends, or for a romantic weekend away.

But want to know what’s equally as awesome as tasting vino and treats in the balmy summertime? Staying cozy indoors and pairing delicious food and wine with your favourite snow activity in the wintertime, that’s what.

This is why Sun Peaks is hosting a brand-new Wine & Food Festival, happening from March 5 to 8. Taste some beautiful wine from BC, sample local culinary delights (including toasty grilled cheese sandwiches), and even try your hand at unique events like a wine-paired yoga or art class.

As part of the festival, surrounding restaurants will be participating in the Sun Peaks Wine and Dine series, showcasing uniquely designed menus paired with BC wines.

Sip, ski, and salivate to your heart’s content, at a ski area just over four hours away from Vancouver. This is what’s on the cards for this incredible festival.

Thursday

Canapes at Sun Peaks/Sun Peaks

Kicking off this epic festival on Thursday, March 5 is the event Italian Snack Bar ($49) from 3 pm to 5pm, where guests get their pick of Italian appetizers, like risotto balls, and pair them with an Italian style wine from the Okanagan. Bellisimo!

Why not follow up your delightful snacks with an incredible wine paired dinner? At The Explorer Dinner ($85), guests can step back in time in Canadian history while they enjoy a five-course tasting menu with wine pairings.

Friday

Chefs at Sun Peaks/Sun Peaks

If you’ve decided to get a headstart and want to head to the hills for Friday night (or why not arrive during the day and take a stroll through the village), you’ll make it in time for this epic dinner: Best of The West Grand Tasting ($110). At the event, you’ll get to pair some of BC’s finest wine with premium meat, cheese and seafood dishes from local Canadian and US West Coast producers.

Saturday

Start your Saturday off right — in the beautiful BC interior, with a full day packed with delicious food and wine paired activities.

On Saturday, you’ll find everything from a morning yoga class with wine ($30) happening 10:30 am to noon (yes, you read that right), to another chance to experience the Italian Snack Bar ($49) event from 3 pm to 5 pm, and an evening art class with wine ($79) hosted by artist Liz Derksen. Here you’ll get to channel your inner artist with beautiful tree landscapes and drink wine from local Fort Berens Estate Winery. Cheers to that!

Sunday

Snowshoeing at Sun Peaks/Sun Peaks

Sundays are for brunching, and just because you’re on a mountain, doesn’t make it any different. Start your day at Voyageur Brunch ($55) at 10:30 am where you can enjoy four whole courses of mouth-watering brunch specials, paired with BC bubbles.

Next up, the iconic Grilled Cheese and Wine ($59) from 3 pm to 5:30 pm. This event has been a long-running favourite, but hurry, it’s already 80% sold out! Pair one of six grilled cheese sandwiches with six of BC’s best wines.

Came to the interior to snowshoe? Sun Peaks has you covered. Join the Moonlight Snowshoe and Mulled Wine adventure ($65) from 6 pm to 9 pm.  Snowshoeing and mulled wine… do we need to explain why this is amazing?

Make sure you make the most of your visit to the stunning Sun Peaks Resort — Canada’s second-largest ski area — by taking advantage of the area’s incredible winter activities. With over 37 km of Nordic trails and 4,270 acres of skiable terrain, whether it’s snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding or even shopping — Sun Peaks is the ultimate winter wonderland. And it’s also a car-free village, so designated driving won’t be an issue.

Tickets to Sun Peaks Wine & Food Festival are on sale now, but they’re selling out fast! With all of the incredible culinary options, the hardest decision will be knowing which event to choose from.
