Pay-what-you-can cookbook helps people living in extreme poverty

Feb 2 2019, 8:24 am

We all cook, but why not cook… for a good cause?

A newly-released organic online cookbook is doing just that, with sale proceeds benefitting communities living in extreme poverty.

The Academy of Culinary Nutrition has released its annual cookbook for a cause, From Scratch Cooking. It contains 50 whole and healthy recipes, to raise money and awareness for Canadian non-profit group Organics 4 Orphans (O4O).

The 2019 edition includes:

  • 50 gluten and dairy free recipes
  • Vegan and paleo options
  • Culinary nutrition trips
  • Instant download upon purchase
  • Pay-what-you-can pricing
  • 100% of proceeds go to Organics 4 Orphans

The online culinary nutrition school, based in Toronto but with a global student-base, will donate 100% of cookbook proceeds to Ontario-based Organics 4 Orphans, a non-profit seeking to be the world’s largest, most cost-effective sustainable natural-food and holistic-health network in order to eradicate extreme poverty.

Through sustainable agriculture and holistic living, O4O empowers and transforms communities in East Africa to be healthy, disease-fighting, and income generating.

To date, O4O has developed 600 community garden projects, lifting more than 22,000 individuals out of extreme poverty. With a focus on natural disease-fighting plants and foods, their communities have had over 75% reduction in malaria incidences. In total, these communities grow approximately 4 million healthy and nutritious meals, each year.

The 2019 From Scratch cookbook is available for purchase on a pay-what-you-can scale.
