More than one third of Canada's active COVID-19 cases are in Ontario

More than one third of Canada’s active COVID-19 cases have been reported in Ontario.

As of 7:00pm on January 9 – when the federal government’s COVID-19 tracker was last updated – there are 83,252 active COVID-19 cases across Canada.

Ontario currently has 28,691 active virus cases, the highest of any province or territory.

Based on the government’s data, Quebec has the second-highest count of active cases, with 24,607. Alberta follows with 14,437.

There are 7,439 active cases in British Columbia, 4,664 in Manitoba, and 3,186 in Saskatchewan.

Despite some provinces seeing upwards of 20,000 active COVID-19 cases, other parts of Canada are seeing fewer than 200.

New Brunswick has 172 active coronavirus cases as of January 9, while Nova Scotia has 31.

The data shows 10 active cases in Yukon, eight in Prince Edward Island, and seven Newfoundland and Labrador.

There were no active virus cases in Nunavut or the Northwest Territories reported as of January 9.

To date, Canada has seen a total of 652,473 COVID-19 cases and 16,833 virus-related deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.
