Meghan and Harry to stop using HRH titles

The British royal family has ironed out a few more details regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from their roles as senior royals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will lose their HRH titles and no longer be working members of the royal family, the queen announced in a statement Saturday.

The couple will no longer receive public funds for their royal duties, she added. Meghan and Harry also wish to repay British taxpayers the cost of refurbishing Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.

“Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” Queen Elizabeth II said. “I recognize the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”

The new arrangement will take effect in spring 2020. The queen didn’t comment on whether the couple will still receive public funds for their security expenses, saying “there are well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly-funded security.”
