All dogs need proper exercise, and that usually comes in the form of walks… but what’s a proud pet-owner to do when the outside air is literally trying to freeze us all?

Well, Calgarians whose pups can’t quite handle the cold are in luck, as there are a number of business and locations throughout the city that allow pets indoors for a fun little field trip out of the house.

pause4change, a rescue foundation founded in 2012 that works alongside Alberta Animal Rescue, has shared a list on Facebook of ideal spots to bring those bored pups for a day out on the town.

Here are all the places that pause4change recommends going with your dogs for some indoor fun (though it is noted that calling ahead of time to make sure is a good course of action):

Cold Garden Brewery

Latitude Art Gallery

Colour Me Mine — Dogs can create a pay print, though be sure to call ahead to check availability

Fairmont Palliser — Hotel is pet friendly, though avoid restaurant areas

Vets — Vets always welcome socialization. Practice manners in the waiting room, and polite greetings with staff

Pet Stores — A great place to practice self control around food and treats. Staff are always great to practice polite greetings with too. Larger chains like Petsmart may have small animals and birds — another great opportunity to practice manners and meet new creatures

Chapters Indigo — Avoid Starbucks sections

Bass Pro at Cross Iron

Cabelas

Winners

Marshalls

Homesense

Canadian Tire

Michaels

Bed Bath & Beyond Chinook

Urban Barn

It is also noted in the post that, if you must take your dog outside for a walk, to keep it short, on a leash, and to provide your dog with boots, pawbalm, and a coat if necessary.

Note: The pause4change post includes Sunridge Mall and Southcentre Mall’s main area, though the mall has since revised their rules to allow dogs only during animal-designated events.
