Outdoor pop-up retail park coming to East Village in June

A vacant lot in East Village is being transformed into a mini outdoor mall come June 1.

On the corner of 4th Street and 8th Avenue SE a new hot and happening pop-up shipping container hub will soon arise and be open for business.

Organizers say the East Village Junction will be part outdoor retail hive, part event space, and really big part community gathering spot.

The pop-up retailer will be open Thursday to Sunday (and holiday Mondays), starting June 1 through to October 1. 12 retailers—including Lululemon, Dor-Bel International Fine Foods, Rath Bicycle and Modern Menswear—will set up shop inside modified eight foot by twenty foot shipping containers. Each container shop will be fitted out with a glass storefront and fully customized inside and out.

In addition to the pop-up stores, throughout the summer East Village Junction’s retail tenants will take turns hosting workshops in the common area.

East Village in partnership with Springboard Performance‘s ContainR will host local artists who will add colour and vibrancy with a public art installation and programming every Thursday evening.

To add to the fun, regular musical events and other performances will keep the East Village Junction stage moving in rhythm as well as a daily duo of YYC Food Trucks will ensure that your taste buds, too, can shop. And for those beer lovers, Village Brewery will also be making appearances all summer long.
