These are Canada's 18 most affordable regions for buying a home

Feb 18 2021, 5:10 pm

With real estate prices around the country skyrocketing over the past year, finding affordable homes in Canada may seem like an impossible feat.

The national average home price has gone up by a whopping 23% since last January, according to a new report from Zoocasa, taking it to $621,525. Despite this strong annual growth in nearly every market across the country, Zoocasa found that there are 18 markets where the average price of homes is below the national average.

Some, like St John, Newfoundland — the cheapest market looked at in the report — fell significantly below the average, with some homes listed for under $200,000. Others, like London and St. Thomas, Ontario, just sneak in under the national average cutoff.

Unsurprisingly, the Vancouver and Toronto markets were the highest in the country, coming in well above the national average at $1,089,096 and $967,885 respectively.

If you’re looking to make one of the many affordable homes in Canada yours, and are open to looking in cities all across the country, here are the 18 markets where you can find homes below the national average, and some examples of the real estate you can find there, too.
