Ten years ago, we were on the edge of our seats.
As wildly successful as the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics were for Canada, there would have been something missing without one last gold medal.

The men’s hockey gold medal game was the final event of the 2010 Games, and the hopes of a nation were riding on its result. Up against our arch rivals from the United States, a goal by American Zach Parise with 25 seconds left in the third period sent the game to overtime.
Moments after a big save by Team Canada goaltender Roberto Luongo, Sidney Crosby scored one of the biggest goals in our country’s history. Calling for a pass from Jarome Iginla, Crosby surprised USA goalie Ryan Miller with a quick shot.

“Sidney Crosby! The Golden Goal!” exclaimed play-by-play broadcaster Chris Cuthbert. “Canada has once-in-a-lifetime Olympic gold.”
Canadians celebrated not only in the streets of Vancouver, but in homes, bars, and streets across the country.
Here’s a sample of the good memories pouring in from Canadians today, on the 10th anniversary of the Golden Goal:
16 year old me would personally like to thank Sidney Crosby for scoring the #GoldenGoal
I was taking Advanced Functions in Grade 11 and was totally lost. I was supposed to have a test the day after the game.
My teacher made us deal that if 🇨🇦 won gold, our test would be moved.

Ten years ago today, about 30 mins before face off, I ran into a friend who had one extra ticket to the men’s hockey final. Right after I took this picture, I ran back to the newsroom to get ready to anchor The National. (At least I knew what the lead story was.) #GoldenGoal pic.twitter.com/SNti1wsVyY
