Vancouver and Calgary are seeing entirely different seasons (PHOTOS)

Calgary and Vancouver may only be 979 km apart, but they are currently looking like they’re on opposite hemispheres as far as weather is concerned.

Canada is technically experiencing its second week of spring as of April 3, though that doesn’t exactly mean rainfall and flowers for all parts of our northern country.

As Vancouverites on the West Coast are well aware, the weather is quite a bit milder than the rest of Canada — thanks to their proximity to the ocean, and, at least in a Vancouver to Calgary comparison’s case, the fact that they’re nearly 2° further south than YYC.

In the summer, these differences aren’t all too noticeable (other than when Calgary gets those rare summer snowfalls) — it’s at the start of spring (i.e. right now) that the divide is blatantly obvious.

Our Vancouver editorial team actually just published an article about how gorgeous the cherry blossoms are looking around the city, while our Calgary team just wrote up an article about how temperatures are finally going to peek above freezing over the next week… with a few flakes mixed into the forecast.

Calgarians looking out their windows will even be able to see a few centimetres of fresh snow courtesy of last night.
