Yaletown is transforming into CandyTown, and you can win a gift package worth $150 (CONTEST)

Oct 19 2018, 12:51 am

It’s never too soon to start talking about the holiday season. (Especially now that Halloween has passed.)

On Saturday, November 24 you can celebrate everything Christmas-inspired when Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood is transformed into CandyTown.

For one day only, the seventh annual Christmas festival hosted by the Yaletown Business Improvement Association will turn Mainland, Hamilton and Davie streets into a beautiful winter wonderland that’s sure to get you in the festive spirit early.

Last year, an estimated 15,000 people visited CandyTown to kick off the holiday season in style. And this year’s highly-anticipated festival is going to be even better. Did we mention that it’s Vancouver’s only free Christmas festival?

To make your experience even more magical, we’re giving away a gift package worth $150 in celebration of CandyTown. Enter the contest below for your chance to win!

In true CandyTown fashion, lights and candy canes will adorn lamp poles and costumed characters will be parading around.

Plan a head start on holiday shopping at the “All I Want for Christmas” Gift Market, complete with unique local artisanal goods that range from clothing and home décor to pet accessories, jewellery and flora. Neighbourhood vendors including SkoahThe Hive PrintingSweetLegsStandout Boutique and Divine Vines will also have their latest collections on display, giving guests a sneak peek into their nearby shops.

You’ll get to see everything from roaming street performers and stilt walkers to  live music and carolling throughout the sugar-packed day, which runs from 12 to 7 pm. And there’s also going to be festive crafts & gifts along with a life-sized Santa sleigh ice carving and specialty cocktails that will make even the most stubborn Scrooge smile.

Little tykes with a sweet tooth can also partake in the event’s signature candy kebob-making workshop at the popular Candy Hut.

Embark on a magical horse-drawn carriage ride (by donation to the B.C. Children’s Hospital) in front of the Roundhouse Community Centre Turntable and be left on a relaxing seaside jaunt along Pacific Boulevard, Hamilton and Davie streets.

Sports fans can also pay a visit to the Vancouver Whitecaps ‘Caps Cruiser’, where there will be friendly soccer matches and opportunities to win prizes with one of the city’s favourite mascots, Spike.

This year, CandyTown expands into both Hamilton and Davie streets. Adults can enjoy their own set of attractions, including dancing at an interactive public disco (complete with a glitter station). Also on-site will be Aunt Leah’s Christmas Tree Lot pop-up, and Science World’s ‘Science on the Spot’ demonstration station.

Guests aged 19 years and over can eat, drink, and be merry with a self-guided CandyTown Cocktail Tour, where participating restaurants and bars share special drinks crafted in the spirit of the festival.

Hearty appetites can flock to a foodie’s paradise of food trucks that will satisfy every craving, including Gary’s Kettle Corn, Sable Shortbread, Cannoli King, Damien’s Belgian Waffles, Sweet Thea Bakery, and more.

The excitement continues on Davie Street with an extension of artisan vendors and gift tents. You can even enjoy a visit to Engine 374, which will be decked out in Christmas lights for the holiday season.

CandyTown might be the only opportunity you have to get a selfie with the gingerbread man himself before the year is out. (Do you know the muffin man?)

You’ll also have the chance to donate to BC Children’s Hospital, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and the Rotary Club while you’re at CandyTown.
