Team Czech Republic has announced their first 16 players that will compete at the World Cup of Hockey this September in Toronto.

The Czechs have not won a best-on-best tournament since the 1998 Olympics in Nagano. The last time they medaled at the Olympic tournament was when they won bronze at the 2006 Games in Turin.

The Czechs selected three goaltenders, four defencemen, and nine forwards today. Notably absent from the list is Jaromir Jagr. The 44-year-old living legend was asked not to be named to the team at this time, although he did leave the door open to being named later.

The remaining seven players on their 23-man roster will be named on June 1.
