The Bank of Canada has said it will feature a prominent Canadian woman in its next series bank note, to be released for circulation in 2018. But who should it be?

We’ve had lots of suggestions from readers, ranging from sports stars (Hayley Wickenheiser, Christine Sinclair), singers (Alanis Morissette, Carly Rae Jepsen, Celine Dion), actors (Kim Cattrall, Pamela Anderson), writers (Margaret Atwood), political figures (Margaret Trudeau, Kim Campbell, Christy Clark) and fictional characters (Robin Sparkles anyone?)

But there is a caveat: anyone featured on Canadian banknotes – apart from the monarch – must have died at least 25 years ago, according to the government’s nomination process.

Here are some qualifying suggestions from readers – tell us which one you would choose, or suggest your own!
