A special lunar display lit up the skies over Vancouver on the first night of 2018, courtesy of the first Supermoon of the year, also known as Wolf Moon.
For those unfamiliar with the term, the first Full Moon of the year is named after howling wolves and the moon appeared 14% bigger and 30% brighter than typical full moons.
The perceived increase in size comes from the fact that the moon will be at essentially its closes point to the earth during its orbit.
At its closest point on January 1, the moon was 356,565 kilometers from Earth. On average, the moon is about 382,900 km from Earth.
And those who caught a glimpse of Mother Nature’s light show shared their shots on social media.
