Ready to take a break from winter? The 12th annual Winterruption Festival is about to heat things up on Granville Island. From February 17 – 19, the festival will celebrate arts and culture in Vancouver and feature some exciting music, dance, theatre, pop up performances, family activities, tours and more.

The central hub of the festival will be The Forge, located under the Granville bridge. There, Rebel Kitchen will be serving up delicious, hearty and nutritious meals. Guests will also get to enjoy the comfort of Wood Shop Workers Coop’s furniture created out of upcycled and repurposed wood.

There will be plenty of other food options including the Winterruption Donut Spectacular, where you can enjoy a selection of mouth-watering treats from Lee’s Donuts. And you can wash your donuts down with the The Liberty Distillery’s Winterrupted Cocktail. This original cocktail features Liberty’s award-winning Endeavour Old Tom Gin, fresh apple juice, blackcurrant cordial, macerated cranberries and lemon zest.

With so much to do, Winterruption will be an action packed weekend of fun. Thankfully, some events, such as The Arts Club’s play, The Men in White, will extend beyond the festival.

Here are some of our top picks for Winterruption events and activities. Visit the official website for a full schedule.

The Men in White

When Abdul’s English cricket team decides to step up their game, they embark on a quest to recruit his brother, Hasan. The only problem is that it involves having to bring Hasan all the way from India. Written by Vancouver’s Anosh Irani, The Men in White is a heartwarming story that shows how sports can unite people across the world. A true testament to embracing diversity, The Men in White’s message is both timely and poignant.

A troupe of professional dancers will perform dance works at various locations throughout the weekend. Performances will begin at The Forge – then the dancers and their accompanying band, Bloco Energia, will lead audiences to four other locations.
