Local veggie grower, Windset Farms, gets Non-GMO Project Verified

DH Vancouver Staff Feb 27, 2014 8:15 am

Local grower of greenhouse produce, Windset Farms®, has recently been verified by the Non-GMO Project. This project’s mission is to allow everyone to make an informed choice about whether or not to consume genetically modified foods – and under its auditing and verification process, Windset Farms® was able to verify all of its products from tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and many more.

There is no debate that Vancouver as a city is very conscious about its food. With large success and popularity in the local food sector, and a focus on ‘Farm to Table’ dining, Vancouverites show that they are committed to eating healthy, local and natural foods; and eating non-GMO foods is also part of this diet.

The involvement with the Non-GMO Project was a natural step for Windset Farms® whose mission is to provide their customers and consumers with delicious and nutrient-rich vegetables, grown in safe and sustainable ways. This is why Windset grows their produce in a perfectly controlled environment to ensure continuous food safety and avoid using chemicals on the crops by relying on an Integrated Pest Management system. This is the biological control of pests using predator bugs that get the freeloading bugs off of our plants. This is much better for the crops, their customers and the environment.

Over the next few months, packaging for Windset Farms® products will incorporate the Non-GMO Project seal and this will be a great way to clarify that they exclusively use naturally-bred seed varieties, so make sure to look out for these at your local grocery store.

About The Non-GMO Project

Initiated in North America, the Non-GMO Project began verifying products in 2010 and has gained significant consumer recognition. It is a non-profit organization committed to educating consumers and providing them with verified non-GMO choices by offering third party verification and standardized labelling.
