Wind and rain warning issued for Metro Vancouver

Nov 15 2017, 2:11 am

Environment Canada is warning Metro Vancouver to expect strong, potentially damaging winds and heavy rainfall on Tuesday and overnight.

According to the warnings, a strong cold front will approach the South Coast on Tuesday evening bringing the wind and rain.

“Strong southeasterly winds of 70 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h, will develop over exposed coastal sections and the southern sections of Howe Sound,” reads the wind warning.

“Winds will ease overnight as the cold front moves out of the region. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”

The wind warning applies to Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Surrey, Langley, Richmond, West Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The wind will be followed heavy rainfall; some 50 mm are expected to fall by Wednesday morning. Local flooding in low-lying areas is possible, says the warning.

The rainfall warning applies to Metro Vancouver, including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge, and the North Shore, including West Vancouver and North Vancouver.
