Environment Canada has declared a high wind and heavy rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Howe Sound.
A low pressure system is deepening as it approaches coastal British Columbia. The associated warm front is spreading rain along the coast rain will intensify tonight over the South Coast as the warm front passes and the cold front sweeps through.
Heavy rain is expected tonight with 50 mm expected by Saturday morning. Areas exposed to west or northwest winds will be most affected by sustained winds of 60 to 80 km/h and gusts to 90 to 100 developing late in the afternoon on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in Whistler it will be cold enough for snow instead of rain. Snowfall amounts of 15 cm are expected for Whistler tonight. The rain and snow will ease in intensity on Saturday and additional significant amounts are not expected.
Behind the strong frontal system tonight, another low is forecast to cross the British Columbia South Coast late Saturday and will develop into a cool and unstable airmass.
