What city is the best for the type of traveler you are?

There’s no denying that Vancouver dealt with a long harsh Winter. Bone chilling memories of Snowmageddon parts 1, 2, and 3 still haunt our dreams, and no one will forget the great salt shortage of 2016. But that’s all behind us now, and what’s left over is a growing travel bug to get out of Vancity for a few days and head somewhere new.

Water cooler gossip is revealing that Vancouverites have no idea where to vacation. Paula from accounting wants to see the world and Jeremy from HR just wants to unwind and have a good time, but no one knows where to go.

To help you decide where’s the best fit for you, we’ve made a list of this year’s hottest cities to visit for the type of traveler you are.

Relaxation seeker – Kahului, Hawaii

A post shared by Cyrus Perry (@hawaii_aquaholic) on

Relaxation seekers just want to take it easy – no long days, no running around, we get it, you just want to kick back and enjoy life on island time. If this sounds familiar then Kahului, Hawaii is the city for you. The greatest thing about Kahului and all of Maui is that it’s relatively small. Sure there are still a lot of things to do, but beach lounging, taking in the sights, and catamaran riding remain the most popular. You could take a drive up the Road to Hana, but really the beach is so comfortable you’ll be just as happy staying put.

Travel photographer – Reykjavik, Iceland

Are you the type of person willing to do anything for a great photo? Do you bring your camera with you everywhere, and keep a spare battery in your car, backpack, and on you at all times? If you plan your weekends around photo opportunities, Reykjavik will be right up your alley. Acting as the gateway to the rest of Iceland, “the ring road” that circles the island starts and ends here. Photographers love Iceland because it’s nothing short of spectacular. Void of trees, every view is unobstructed and breath taking. After a few weeks you’ll have enough waterfall and glacier shots to fill up your social media feeds for months.

Sun lover – Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik is for followers of good weather, lovers of warm ocean waves, and devoted worshippers of Ra and Apollo. Sun lovers are connoisseurs of all things Summer— music festivals, swimming, and adorable outfits. Dubrovnik, Croatia offers all those things basically year-round. Located next to the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik boasts some of the best beaches in the world. With an average sea temperature of 19°C, you can literally spend your entire vacation in the water or working on your tan. If you finish up at the beach, you can explore Westeros because this city is where GOT filmed all of King’s Landing.

City slicker – Tokyo, Japan

Calling all urban explorers and modern wanderers! City slickers live a fast paced life and plan their holidays accordingly. Travel is all about discovering everything a city has to offer – the food, the people, the architecture, and the shopping, you have to try it all. For you, Tokyo, Japan is the city you have to see. Make sure you plan accordingly because there are a gazillion things to do. You’ll need to check out the gardens and the shrines, sample some world-class sushi, and leave enough time to explore as much of this huge city as possible. Asakusa, Yurakucho, and Ginza are all a must.

Music enthusiast – Ibiza, Spain

You live and breathe music, and go to the club every weekend. You’re a late-night owl who gets your energy from music and the dance floor. For your next vacation, it’s time you checked out Ibiza. Yes, everything people say on the internet is true. Ibiza is a dance music mecca with ample opportunity to hit the private beaches, but be prepared as it comes with a pretty hefty price tag. Make sure you plan your trip accordingly to coordinate with the appearances of some the best DJs in the world.

History Buff – Bayeux, France

During your undergrad, you knew you wanted a History degree for some higher purpose, and it was obviously for travel. You only like to visit places with 1000+ years of recorded history, so basically, you’d go nuts for Europe and Asia. If this feels like you, then it’s time to start planning your trip to Bayeux, France. Home to the largest tapestry in the world and countless historical cathedrals, castles, and buildings, you can spend weeks soaking up all the antiquity this city has to offer.

Whether you’re thirsty for some intense beats in Ibiza or you’d like to travel back in time to France’s beautiful castles, there’s a perfect trip out there for everyone. Bask in the sun on a beach, play tourist in a bustling city, or munch on sushi at an authentic Japanese restaurant – if you want it, you can have it.

So what’s one thing all these travelers have in common? They all need some form of travel insurance to make sure their trips never turn sour. BCAA offers loads of affordable and customizable options for Vancouverites (starting at just $20 for single trips!), so you can travel worry-free wherever your wanderlust may take you.
