You don’t need to be a Photoshop guru or a fashion expert to design your own clothes. With new technology and a little bit of creativity, you can now bring all of your design ideas to life.
Make, on Granville Island, wants to transform the retail world by letting customers decide what it is they want to wear. Hundreds of custom creations are available to anyone. With a blank white tee as your canvas, you can create, participate, and play with their print making technology and design exactly what you want.
Make’s software is super simple and easy to use, literally anyone can figure it out. In store, the designer is set up on a big touch screen computer. If you don’t have time to spend in store, you can use the Make Designer online and place your order for pick-up or shipping.
When designing your t-shirt you scroll through hundreds of photos and illustrations that you can layer on top of one another. A number of these images are sourced from local Vancouver artists who not only get the sweet experience of potentially seeing someone walk down the street wearing one of their artworks, but they even get a royalty every time their image is used for a design.
The Make design software is nothing like those design tools you might find anywhere online, or use to make classic team shirts or hoodies. It’s a whole new level of custom designing. Rather than being limited to a standard 10×10 inch box, you can design on the whole shirt. You can pick through dozens of fonts, colours, patterns, animals, quotes, foods, places, flowers, signs, symbols, the list goes on and on. And, if none of the images jump out at you, you also have the option to upload your own designs and photos too to use in the Make Designer.
Your creation can often be printed within an hour, and Make’s innovative approach continues on to the printing process. Rather than silk screening your designs, leaving you with a hard, stiff, plastic-feeling shirt; the inks bond with the fabric creating a smooth feeling garment and images that won’t fade. There are only two other places in North America that offer this this kind of all over t-shirt printing, but they don’t offer you any way to design it. So Make is truly a Vancouver (and Canadian) original.
While your shirt is being printed you can browse around the store. There is a ton of really interesting, different, and fun homewares and accessories.
Make is offering VanCity buzz readers a 20% discount on any Mighty Print shirts ordered online during the month of November. Use the code MIGHTYBUZZ when you check out.
