Vancouver's new public recycling bins

It’s about time the city implemented and expanded its public recycling program. For a city that wants to be the greenest city in the world one would think that public recycling bins would already be in place and widely distributed. A city pilot program will introduce 60 bins in heavy traffic areas such as Kits, Sunset, Second and English Bay beach.

The blue bins will also be binner friendly (in fact they were designed with binners in mind) as there is a front door that anyone can open and take out the bottles and cans. Each bin can hold up to 150 bottles and 288 cans.

The program will not result in any additional costs to the city. The beverage container management company Encorp Pacific will pay for the bins, while the city is incorporating any required maintenance into its waste operations workload.
