Vintage bike swap meet in Vancouver offers rare parts and even rarer bikes

The Vancouver Wheelmen Vintage Bicycle Club is holding its annual bicycle swap meet this Sunday, April 30.

This is the seventh edition of the bicycle swap meet, where people can buy parts for the bikes they own–or buy the entire bike if they need one.

Jamie Kent, captain of the club, told Daily Hive events like these create an opportunity for people to buy parts that are generally harder to find.

“Because it is vintage bicycles, none of this is available at stores. So, you end up buying at eBay or Craigslist or going to swap meet like the one we hold,” said Kent.

“So, this is an opportunity for people who collect old bikes to purchase the bike entirely or the parts they need to work on the bikes they have.”

According to Kent, bicycles are classified as vintage if they are generally 40 years or older, and bikes like these can be hard to maintain.

But, Kent said, the trend for owning vintage and new bikes in Vancouver is growing.

“It’s becoming quite popular as the rise of bicycles and the ease of getting around the city improves. We’ve got one of the most beautiful places to ride,” Kent said.
