New year-round non-stop flights from Vancouver to Iceland

Vancouver’s existing seasonal, non-stop flight connection to Iceland will become a year-round service beginning this year.

Icelandair’s service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Keflavik International Airport (KEF) initially launched in May 2014 as a seasonal service.

But thanks to increasing demand it will now operate year-round to provide an enhanced link to both Iceland and connections to dozens of destinations across Europe.

“I would like to thank Icelandair and our tourism partners for their continued support,” said Craig Richmond, YVR’s President & CEO, in a statement.

“Together, we have laid the foundation for this increased service, which will further develop YVR as a world-class connecting hub by linking our passengers and businesses with an incredible destination—and key connecting hubs in Europe.”

Increased frequency

Icelandair will continue to use a Boeing 757 aircraft seating 183 passengers, with flights leaving YVR twice weekly on Fridays and Sundays at 3:45 pm and arriving at KEF at 6 am. For return trips, flights will depart KEF on Thursdays and Saturdays at 5:10 pm and land at YVR at 5:50 pm.

And in 2018, the frequency for Icelandair’s Vancouver route will be boosted to three times weekly.

As well, YVR will also gain two new routes to Europe just in time for this year’s summer travel rush. Air Canada is scheduled to begin a seasonal daily service to Frankfurt, Germany on June 1 and a seasonal three times weekly service to London Gatwick Airport on June 8.

Earlier this month, Air Canada announced new seasonal services to Orlando, Florida and Melbourne, Australia.
