Vancouver hit-and-run leaves woman in serious condition

Vancouver police are asking for the public’s help, after a driver hit a senior pedestrian and fled the scene, leaving her in a serious condition, last weekend.

The collision happened just before 7:30 pm on Saturday, when the 62-year-old woman was walking west across the intersection at Victoria Drive at Williams Street.

A motorist driving a newer model silver Volkswagen Jetta travelling southbound hit the woman, sending her flying several metres into the air.

The woman landed in the northbound traffic lane. She was taken to hospital and remains in serious condition, say police.

The driver was last seen turning west on a street located two blocks from the collision, police said, without releasing the name of the street.

“We are asking the driver to come forward and provide their version of the incident,” said VPD Constable Jason Doucette in a release.

“We have video of the incident and photos of the vehicle. It’s only a matter of time before we identify the person behind the wheel.”

After interviews with witnesses and examining evidence, the VPD believes the vehicle would have a cracked headlight lens on the driver’s side and other front end damage.

Anyone with information about this collision, or who knows the location of the vehicle, is asked to call VPD at 604-717-3012 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at solvecrime.ca.
