A pipe bomb discovered in a vehicle last night in East Vancouver was safely detonated by the Vancouver Police Department’s bomb squad.

According to a release, police performed a traffic stop on East Cordova Street near Hawks Avenue when the driver allegedly informed the officer he had a homemade pipe bomb in his vehicle.

As a result, the Explosive Disposal Unit was called to the scene to locate the bomb and assess its threat. After considering it was dangerous, the bomb was safely destroyed.
