Vancouver Named Canada's Greenest City

DH Vancouver Staff Feb 09, 2011 4:20 pm

Today Corporate Knights Magazine named Vancouver Canada’s greenest city. Also receiving that honour was our Island sister city, Victoria. No doubt this is a great feat and puts us well on our way to becoming the greenest city in the world by 2020.  A Bixi program would help the cause. Whether or not we actually become the greenest city in the world or not, I still like the city’s direction of making Vancouver more environmentally friendly.

For this study, Vancouver scored highly in infrastructure and built environment, governance and empowerment and social well-being.

Highlights in Vancouver include a new curbside compost program, district renewable energy projects, the greenest building code in North America, and demonstrated climate leadership through meeting and exceeding greenhouse gas reduction targets.
