9 events to check out at the Vancouver Mural Festival

This weekend will mark the first Vancouver Mural Festival in Vancouver.

Taking place all day on today, August 20, the Vancouver Mural Festival is host to different events and activities around the city’s east end. While there are so many events to explore, here is a list to get you started. And of course, don’t forget to check out all the art.

Treasures & Travels

The official Vancouver Mural Festival market brings together local markets and a bunch of giveaways.

Where: Thornton Park, 1166 Main Street
Time: Noon to 7 pm

The man who basically invented partying is in town as part of the Mural Festival – and he’s playing the amazing Cobalt. If you miss the main show, catch him at the official afterparty at the Biltmore!

Where: The Cobalt, 917 Main Street
Time: 7 pm, show ends at 11 pm

Red Truck’s Patio Party

Two words: patio party. And beer. Red Truck hosts a free party in their space, with locally brewed musical talent and live painting.

Where: 295 E 1st Avenue
Time: Noon to 10 pm

12 Murals on False Creek Flats Warehouses

The heart of this festival is the art, and here you can check out murals by 12 different artists who create a walking outdoor gallery.

Where: 237 Southern Street
Time: Noon to 9 pm

Mural Biking Tour by Art/Seen

Be a true Vancouverite and explore art on two wheels. Check out the mural biking tour info booth at the corner of 7th and Main. But don’t worry, walking tours are also available. Bike tours are $12 per person.

Time: Start times are 1, 3, and 5 pm

Antisocial Skate Competition and Parking Lot Party

A skate competition, with live music and art! Nothing like a good ol’ parking lot party.

East Van Bazaar

In the alleyway behind F as in Frank, check out Vancouver’s friendliest shopping experience. There will be a European style bazaar taking over the laneway west of Main.

Outdoor Roller Disco

Get in the basement, and find those rollerskates. This weekend’s Mural Festival and Roller Girls are presenting an Outdoor Roller Disco. Maybe practice before heading down – just in case!

Glow in the Dark Mural

Local mural artist Nick Gregson will be painting the back alley of 1981 Main Street in glow in the dark paint. Take an evening stroll to check out his work.
