Kimberly was born and raised in Maple Ridge and is of half Japanese and half Finnish ethnicity. She has done multiple photoshoots with the clothing store SHOW ATTITUDE, located in Crystal Mall in Burnaby before moving to Japan and is now a Japanese model doing big things with lower mainland roots.
I have had the pleasure to get to know our Kimberly (who is an avid gamer by the way) over the past couple of years and a bit and recently caught up with her to see how she is doing.
VcB: You have moved to Japan to pursue modeling, why Japan?
Kimberly: I really love the country, and also the fashion scene in Japan. There is also a high demand for half Japanese models right now, so I thought that it would be a good time for me to try and model over there.
VcB: Do you ever see yourself coming back to Vancouver or is Japan the place for you?
Kimberly: Japan is definitely nice and easy to live in, but I will always have a place in my heart for Vancouver. But who knows, maybe I’ll end up somewhere completely different!
VcB: Since moving to Japan how has your modeling career developed?
Kimberly: I’m actually looking forward to how my career will develop from now on! I feel like I’m just getting started. In the past year I have been lucky enough to be shot for a gigantic billboard (which was one of my goals) and have appeared almost monthly on magazine covers. But I still feel that I have a long way to go and am far from being satisfied with where I am now. The more work I do and the more people I meet, the more I realize how much more there is that I can improve.
VcB: How long have you been modeling and what made you want to become a model?
Kimberly: I started modeling in Vancouver about 3 years ago, and then moved to Japan and started modeling in Japan. I have always thought that it would be interesting to model, but it wasn’t until I started reading Japanese fashion magazines such as ViVi and Glamorous that I actually wanted to become a model.
VcB: How would you describe your personal style?
Kimberly: I’m very simple (laughs). My clothing style is also simple, but I think that that adds more impact as opposed to clothes with a lot of patterns and accessories.
VcB: What are your hobbies?
Kimberly: I love playing video games! I have a Nintendo DS that I always bring with me to photoshoots so I can play during the time that I’m waiting.
VcB: What are your plans for the next month, year and beyond that?
Kimberly: My plan is to just keep doing what I’m doing and enjoy every minute of it!
Thank you for your time Kimberly and we at Vancity Buzz wish you continued success in whatever you do.
