Vancouver is Gotham City?

DH Vancouver Staff Dec 03, 2013 10:31 am

In the original 1989 Tim Burton classic Batman movie, a map of Vancouver was used to represent the fictional city of Gotham.

In the photo, Vicki Vale’s hand (played by Kim Basinger’s hand) is pointing around the SFU area. The map clearly shows the downtown peninsula and the geographic shape of the entire Vancouver peninsula. Farmland in Richmond is also depicted, although the North Shore Mountains seem to have been completely flattened for development.

Of course, in DC’s comic books, Gotham City is based on New York City. In Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Chicago, Pittsburgh and New York City were the urban filming locations for the films.
