As summer slowly begins rolling in for us Vancouver women, we begin making – or at least begin thinking of making – several changes in our lives. From our summer bodies, to our summer wear, to our summer gatherings, we anticipate many perks coming our way, and can’t wait to partake in our famous “girls’ night out” several times each week for the next couple of months.
Moreover, we can’t wait to rendezvous with our lady pals in outdoor places only attainable during the small summer window the Vancouver weather will allow us. Eating and drinking outdoors is only available for a few short weeks of the year, so why not plan your girls’ night out at the most salacious patios our city has to offer?
When shortlisting the best patios for girls’ night out, one must keep in mind what girls like while rendezvousing with their entourage. So what do we want, ladies? I’ve come up with some places that are sure to offer at least bare minimum on the top listed aspects of a good time: a social environment with a “spicy” atmosphere, decently priced food and drinks, a myriad of good looking people – particularly well-to-do bachelors – and, of course, a variety that will suit our many summer ensembles.
Reflections is a gem that offers a mini oasis atop the Rosewood Hotel Georgia in the bustling downtown core. A half covered, half open rooftop patio allows for a summer breeze while sipping a custom cocktail. People depart from all areas of the city – and world – to socialize at the patio’s high-top tables, low-rise fire hugging lounges and resort-style cabanas. Ladies, if you’re into dressing up, stilettos intact, and getting close to local business men and new-to-Vancouver travelers, or if you’d like to simply reflect with your girlfriends in a classy atmosphere, Reflections may just be the place for your pretty little night out. Reflections is open daily from 11:30am to 11:00pm.

The Joe Fortes patio? Young, fun, packed, entertaining and deliciously filling. The rooftop patio at Joe Fortes isn’t at all like the inside, it actually may be its polar opposite. Head upstairs and catch a seat on the patio, as well as some sunrays. The moderately fancy style is forgiving to the casual and is likely to leave visitors full of delicious seafood, buzzing from their graciously poured cocktails, glowing with a deepened tan and socially awakened by the entertaining and eclectic atmosphere. Ladies, if you’re looking for a place to drink some, eat plenty and meet many, Joe Fortes rooftop patio is the place for you and your entourage of slingback wearing, seafood loving, social queens. Joe Fortes is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Local Public Eatery doesn’t offer what its name suggests, being suspiciously situated a whole lot less local, but does offer its laid-back, flip-flop wearing, beach hugging charm. Directly across from Kits Beach, Local is one of the city’s best patios offering one of the city’s best views. Local, being unlocal, attracts many people from many walks of life. Ladies, if you’d prefer to leave the stilettos at home, and wouldn’t mind a lax atmosphere with pitchers of sangria and Abercrombie-like beach boys to entertain you, bring out your taxi fare and prepare to become de-localized – and often de-sensitized – at Local. Open daily until 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on weekends.
