It’s time to celebrate spring the best way we know how – eating and drinking!

With so many amazing events to choose from, your calendar is sure to fill up quickly. From the Spot Prawn Festival to Mother’s Day – here are 17 food events to check out this May.

1. Benefit Dinner for Shalefield Organic Gardens

Chef David Gunawan and his team at Farmer’s Apprentice have partnered with farm-to-table restaurant, Shalefield Organic Gardens, to raise the funds to rebuild damages incurred from the February blizzard. The menu for this benefit dinner includes Sorrel Gazpacho, Asparagus, Slaw of Kohlrabi with Smoked Cod, and Red Fife and Einkorn Sourdough to name a few.

2. St. Lawrence restaurant preview pop-up

Another chance to test-drive the menu of the planned St. Lawrence restaurant is happening at their sibling spot Ask For Luigi on Monday, May 1. Experience four courses of old-school French and Quebecois inspired cuisine developed by chefs J-C Poirier and Mark Perrier.

3. Tartine & Maple’s Dinner & Demo: Spring Flavors

Learn how to make Spring Salad, Slow Braised Lam, and Rhubarb Tarts. Guests will get to taste everything made during the class along with a savoury welcome snack and a glass of white wine. Recipes and take-home food will also be provided.

4. See Ya Later Ranch Wine Dinner at the Boathouse English Bay

The Boathouse English Bay invites wine connoisseurs to a See Ya Later Ranch Wine Pairing Event. Guests will enjoy a hand-crafted, six-course meal curated by The Boathouse executive chef, Johnathan Ampana, paired with a selection of wines from See Ya Later Ranch Vineyards. Special Guest David Saysomack, winemaker at See Ya Later Ranch, will offer guests exclusive insight about each wine served throughout the night.

5. Joël Watanabe and Nick Nutting: Italian/Asian Street Food and Cocktails

Joël Watanabe of Kissa Tanto and Bao Bei teams up with Nick Nutting of Tofino’s Wolf in the Fog collaborate on an evening of Asian/Italian street food. This even will also feature a raw bar outside at the Tofino Botanical Gardens.

6. Devour! Osoyoos Food Film Festival

A celebration of both food and film, Devour! is a can’t-miss spring foodie event. This weekend features some of Western Canada’s best chefs cooking up multi-course feasts, along with a series of films films curated by Devour’s managing director Lia Rinaldo.

7. Kentucky Derby Party at the Granville Room

Head to the Granville Room on May 6 for their first annual Kentucky Derby Party. This event will feature a complimentary bourbon sampling and feature derby brunch menu. Mint Juleps will also be on special for $7. Doors open at 1 and the race begins at 3 pm.

8. Tartine & Maple’s Chocolate Lover’s Ultimate Cooking Class

Learn how to make Chocolate Mousse, Truffles, and Lava Cake. Guests will get to taste everything made during the class along with a savoury welcome snack and a glass of white wine. Recipes and take-home food will also be provided.

9. Snout to Tail Pop-Up Dinner

This seven-course dinner includes craft beer pairings and it is being hosted by Masaladobo on Granville Street. This event is sponsored by Windsor Meat Co, Beast and Brine, and Third Street Foods. 10. Tonight for Tomorrow Mealshare fundraiser night

Make plans to eat dinner out on May 10; it’s Mealshare’s second annual Tonight for Tomorrow fundraiser. Over 15 restaurants have partnered with the non-profit charity and agreed to donate one dollar to Mealshare for every dollar spent on food on this day.

11. Wild Rice X Steel & Oak Brewery Brew Masters Dinner

Enjoy a four-course dinner at Wild Rice Market paired with Steel & Oak Brewery craft brews. This menu features a drunken shrimp raft, filipino pork sisig, roasted lemongrass chicken, and old fashioned chocolate cake to finish.

12. BC Spot Prawn Festival

Tickets to this event include a plate of three juicy BC spot prawns along with side dishes and fresh breads from Terra BreadsR&B Brewing and Evolve Cellars will be providing free beer and wine sampled in the 19+ tent of the festival.

13. Tartine & Maple’s Mother’s Day Brunch & Bake

Head to this event to enjoy brunch, bites, mimosas. You will learn how to make Eclairs and Cream Puffs, and for the brunch menu you can expect Beet Soup with Whipped Goat Cheese, Mini Asparagus & Bacon Quiches, and Homemade Baba Ganoush and Tapenade with Toasted Tortillas. 14. Whistler’s Second Annual Gourmet Ride

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler is partnering with Bici Gusti for a second year of Whistler’s exciting Gourmet Ride. Bici Gusti invites people to an event that is family-friendly, it will feature delicious feasts and of course, cycling! This Gourmet Ride is a fabulous way to start the biking season and cyclists of all levels are welcome.

16. TopDrop Vancouver Tasting Event

17. Ridge Meadows Craft Beer Festival

Head to the second annual Ridge Meadows Craft Beer Festival to relax in the newly renovated club house at the Pitt Meadows Golf Club. Guests can sip on over 60 vendors offering samples of beers, and food will be provided at this  stand-up walk around tasting.
