9 Vancouver food events to check out this week, June 5 to 11

Hungry for fun? We’ve got 9 tantalizing food and drink events worth checking out here, all going down in or near Vancouver this week. Eat, drink, and be merry!

1. The Cascade Room’s Main Street Cup ll

The Cascade Room is hosting the second Main Street Cup, a bi-annual cocktail tournament open to any bar within a one-block radius of Main Street, from Crab Park to Marine Drive. The Cascade Room will select a maximum of ten mixologists to submit their own signature cocktail using The Botanist Gin and a mandatory foraged ingredient for their cocktail from anywhere on Main Street. Local band, Bonfire Ballerina, will be performing following the competition around 7:30 pm.

When: Monday, June 5 from 4 pm ’til late

2. Kombucha-making class

Do you love kombucha? Join Laura Reid of Counter-Cultures in a class discussing the basics of kombucha fermentation. Ticket price includes the starting ingredients of your first batch at home (culture + sugar tea + jar).

3. Making Brioche!

4. Cocktail & Donut Pairing at Cartems

Clough Club and Cartems have teamed up for a memorable night of cocktails and donuts. Tickets include an epic three-course savoury and sweet donut-inspired dinner with cocktails and a welcome beverage too.

5. Farmer’s Apprentice welcomes Guest Chef Jesse McCleery

This month’s collaborative dinner at Farmer’s Apprentice pairs Chef David Gunawan and Jesse McCleery of Galiano Island’s Pilgrimme restaurant for a dinner made with local ingredients. This event features a six-course menu with wine pairings.

6. Fly By at Back and Forth Bar

Join the Goose Island crew for a night of beer, ping pong, and delicious eats at Back and Forth Bar on Columbia Street. This tap takeover will feature some special brews not currently available in Canada, so you’ll definitely want to be there.

7. BC Shellfish & Seafood Festival

Enjoy ten days of seafood celebrations during the 11th annual BC Shellfish & Seafood Festival. This is Western Canada’s largest seafood festival and it features culinary tastings, demonstrations, events, and tours in venues and scenic destinations within the Comox Valley.

8. You Can! Preserve the Summer Bounty #1

In the first class of this short summer series learn how to make strawberry jam, pickled beets and carrots, preserved lemons, and rhubarb sauce. Enjoy wine during this class and go home with samples and recipes.

9. Italian Day

Let your tastebuds start tingling! Vancouver’s annual Italian Day will pack Commercial Drive with pasta, pizza, and partygoers again on Sunday, June 11. Join thousands of Vancouverites in a celebration of all things Italian as Commercial Drive will transform into a 14-block car free zone, featuring over 200 merchants, food vendors, and entertainment.
