A 55-year-old Vancouver man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on Thursday evening.

According to investigators, the incident took place just before 6 pm, on Inverness Street at King Edward Avenue.

The victim was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by the driver of an eastbound pickup truck.

He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and has cooperated with investigators.

The rain and “low-light conditions” are believed to be contributing factors in the incident, said VPD Sgt. Jason Robillard.

The incident is Vancouver’s first traffic fatality of 2018.
