Smart fridge/TELUS

  • What: Located at the Vancouver Chinese Lantern Festival at the PNE, the concept condo gives you a sneak peek at smart-home innovations on the horizon. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the most cutting-edge technology. Although some of the technologies inside the home are now available, many are still a few years out so you’ll get to channel some futuristic vibes while you’re there.

Ghost Spring

  • What: Ghost Spring is a two-person show by Dilara Akay and Derya Akay looking at funeral practices within their own family in Turkey. This mother and son team explores the rituals around death within their own family, passing down information from one generation to the next.

Misery: An Arts Club on Tour Presentation

  • What: Successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon is rescued from a car crash by his “Number One Fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up in her secluded home in the mountains of Colorado. While Annie nurses him back to health, Paul soon realizes that he is not her guest, but her captive. Angered that he has killed off her favourite character, Annie forces Paul to resurrect her in a new book—and Paul soon finds himself writing for his freedom…and his life. Based on the novel by Stephen King.

Women & War

  • What: Women and War shares the stories of generations of women impacted by conflict from the Great War to the War in Afghanistan. From housewife to switchboard worker, young bride to nurse, mother to widow, and young woman to soldier, these are tales of sacrifice, love, determination and hope told by those who bravely persevered on the home front and on the battlefield. Directed by Larisse Campbell.

Square Dance at the Wise Hall

  • What: Beginner friendly square dance taught and called by Paul Silveria with live music by Booth Shot Lincoln featuring Shiho Muzumoto on fiddle. Opening set by The Royal Coachmen, all genders and orientations welcome. Come to watch or come to dance, bring a partner or find one there.

Italian Film Festival Opening Gala: Tulipani
