What: The 20th edition of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train brings holiday cheer to 164 communities and collect donations for local food banks. Each stop features live entertainment, music, and festive activities.

Guo Pei: Couture Beyond Exhibition

What: Renowned for combining China’s rich aesthetic tradition with modern sensibilities, the exhibition will showcase more than 40 of Guo Pei’s breathtaking designs, including opulent avant-garde silhouettes. Couture Beyond looks at the the evolution of Guo Pei’s designs over 10 years, beginning with examples from her early collections, Samsara (2006), An Amazing Journey in a Childhood Dream (2008) and 1002 Nights (2010), with a lively installation in the Gallery’s rotunda of the collection from her 2015 MAC Cosmetics collaboration.

Aurora Winter Festival

Good Tidings: A Good Noise Gospel Christmas 

What: The Good Noise Gospel Choir is the Gospel Choir in residence at Christ Church Cathedral. This holiday season the group is putting on a series of concerts around Vancouver with guest jazz vocalist Maureen Washington. The Good Noise choir is known for concerts that get people up, dancing and feeling all kinds of good feels. If you need a bit of a Christmas season pick-me-up, this is the event to check out.

Bah Humbug 2018

What: Jim Byrnes leads a stellar cast in this modern re-telling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, set in the Downtown Eastside. Scrooge is a pawnshop operator and hotel landlord who renovicts his tenants. Savannah Walling, the artistic director of Vancouver Moving Theatre which co-produces this production, says “we hope that our music filled adaptation shines the light of truth on this old tale and today’s Downtown Eastside.”

What: Free Christmas attractions will be taking over the Canadian Trail, along the west promenade of Canada Place . This year’s festivities include giant light installations at the Canada North light display, the historic Woodward’s Windows, and the festive Avenue of Trees. Visitors will be able to enjoy the sounds of live Christmas performances along the west promenade of Canada Place from 12 to 2 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. For the whole of the Christmas celebrations, the iconic white sails of Canada Place will be illuminated with festive colours and designs.

Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge 2018

What: Thousands of sparkling lights will illuminate the iconic suspension bridge and other areas of the park. The 30-ton Douglas Firs of the Treetops Adventure will also be dressed in lights. Standing at an impressive 110 feet above the forest floor, the Douglas Firs that connect the suspension bridges are the eight tallest Christmas trees in the world, according to event organizers. Also returning to this year’s festival is the Snowy Owl prowl, gingerbread cookie decorating, and sing-along carols with a holiday band.

Little Dickens: The Daisy Theatre 

What: Ronnie Burkett’s marionette vaudeville troupe puts a whole new spin on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Ebeneezer Scrooge becomes Esme Scrooge, a diva somewhat past her prime, who goes on a Christmas journey to redemption. This adult-only show got great reviews last year and promises to make your spirits bright.

IIHF World Junior Championship: Finland vs Denmark

What: The IIHF World Junior Championship is returning to British Columbia for the first time in 13 years, and Langley will host a pair of pre-tournament games as part of the Lordco Road to the World Juniors. Finland has won four gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Championship, last standing atop the podium at the 2016 World Juniors on home ice in Helsinki. Denmark is in the Top Division for the fifth year in a row; its highest finish ever was fifth at the 2017 tournament in Toronto and Montreal.

What: The botanical garden is covered in more than a million lights. Reindeer and Scandinavian gnomes also roam the trails, and visitors can walk through the gingerbread wood, lantern alley, and Make-a-Wish candle grotto.

Grouse Mountain’s Peak of Christmas 2018

What: Visitors can take a spin on Grouse Mountain’s 8,000-sq-ft outdoor ice skating pond or zip down the multi-lane snow sliding zone. You can also take a Sleigh Ride through the mountain’s Winter Wonderland, meet magic Reindeer, watch family Christmas movies, and write a letter to Santa. At Santa’s Workshop, believers young and old can share their special Christmas wishes and take a photo. Photos are pay by donation to BC Children’s Hospital. And if you really want to get to know St. Nick, join him breakfast from Saturday, December 1 to Sunday, December 23, and be sure to get on his good list.
