10 Vancouver comedy events to check out in April

April showers are in full effect, so escape the rain with some great comedy around the city! Here is Daily Hive Vancouver’s checklist of 10 great comedy events taking place this April.

Super Scene! Anniversary-Spectacular Edition

  • What: Super Scene’s anniversary special features Chelsey Stuyt, Dan Dumsha, Graham Myers, Margret Nyfors, Nikolai Witschl vying for the chance to bring their story to an epic conclusion. Hosted by Mitch Boliszczuk, featuring musical guest Kerry O’Donovan.
  • Where: The Woods Studio – 7 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver
  • When: April 3 at 8 pm
  • Tickets: Online, $5 or $8 at the door

Pop-Up Comedy Jam with stand-up guest Patrick Maliha!

  • What: The Fictionals welcome stand-up luminary Patrick Maliha to Cafe Deux Soleils for Pop-Up Comedy Jam. Patrick has performed on CBC radio, SiriusXM, CTV’s Comedy Now, and on CBC television’s national broadcast of The Winnipeg Comedy Festivals Characters Gala. He is also the world record holder for most impressions in one minute.
  • Where: Cafe Deux Soleils – 2096 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
  • When: April 4 at 8 pm
  • Tickets: At the door, $7 or $5 for students

Western World

  • What: An improvised parody inspired by the popular TV series Westworld. Each night features a totally new ‘episode’ under the watchful eye and guiding mind of Robert (sometimes Roberta) Ford. Throughout the show, Guests help craft the storyline. In this artificial world of improvised comedy anything can, and will, happen.
  • Where: The Improv Centre – 1502 Duranleau Street, Vancouver
  • When: Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm. Opens April 6
  • Tickets: Online, $17-$23.50

Reggie Watts

  • What: Internationally renowned vocal artist/beatboxer/musician and comedian. Reggie Watts is on tour to support his new Netflix comedy special Spatial.
  • Where: Vogue Theatre – 1918 Granville Street, Vancouver
  • When: April 9 at 8 pm
  • Tickets: Online, $40

Railway Comedy Co.

  • What: Comedy returns to the Railway Stage, with a brand new weekly stand-up show starting April 11.
  • Where: Railway Stage & Beer Café – 579 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver
  • When: Every Tuesday at 9 pm starting April 11
  • Tickets: At the door, $5

The Chair

  • What: A unique theatrical tour de force – every show is different as 8 professional actors delved into the twisted mind of writer John McGie as he creates wild characters that they bring to life. Promises to be hilariously dramatic and shockingly surreal.
  • Where: Seven Dining Loung – 53 West Broadway, Vancouver
  • When: April 15 at 8 pm

The Fringe Cabaret: After Dark

  • What: It’s thrilling, it’s risqué, it’s maybe just a little bit spooky – like Edgar Allan Poe juggling knives in leather pants and a raven feather boa – it’s The Fringe Cabaret: After Dark!  As the lights go out and the clock winds toward the witching hour audiences should prepare for acts ranging from ludicrous to spine tingling, from tantalizing to potentially baroque, and from the mildly funny to the utterly droll.
  • Where: Studio 1398 – 1398 Cartwright Street, Vancouver
  • When: April 22 at 10 pm
  • Tickets: Online, $16.50

Giggles & Gags

  • What: Original, hilarious, knee-slapping sketch comedy with twists on Vancouver’s pop culture, and musical and magical interludes along the way. All net proceeds from the show go to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
  • Where: PAL Studio Theatre – 581 Cardero Street, Vancouver
  • When: April 27 at 8 pm
  • Tickets: Online, $25 plus service fees

Arms Akimbo

  • What: Arms Akimbo’s inaugural improv performance Local musicians Rupert Common, Missy D, and Dave Taylor with his band will also perform.
  • Where: The Woods Studio – 7 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver
  • When: April 28 at 7:30 pm
  • Tickets: At the door, $10 ($3 of every ticket will be donated to Beauty Night Society)

Drunk Magic with Wes Barker

  • What: Magician Wes Baker will hold a live podcast with comedians Simon King and Ivan Decker where the drinking will begin. After the podcast, both Simon and Ivan will do 15 minute sets followed by Wes performing a magic show where the audience will choose the tricks and the drinks.
