Tucked away in the corner of historic old Gastown, LYNNsteven has sure made its mark on the block. Representing the pride of Vancity; the funky boutique focuses mostly on local designers, with a flare of the favourites as well. We had the pleasure of speaking briefly with Nicole Durnin, owner of LYNNsteven, to ask a couple of the most sought after questions.

Where does the name LYNNsteven come from and what is the history behind the store?

My husband actually came up with the name. I really wanted to have a personal connection to the name of the store, and the notion of family is very  important to me. Lynn is my Mom’s first name and Steven is my younger brother. LYNNsteven opened its doors almost three years ago in Gastown. I  had previously worked in the retail world for close to twenty years and I really wanted to open up my own boutique in order to share my concept with the  city.

What are your favourite brands you carry?

We have so many amazing brands at the shop, it’s hard to choose. We love supporting Canadian talent and we’re big fans of Ela Handbags, Valentine K  and Belmondo. I also love Corey Lynn Calter who is a designer from LA who does amazing prints and bold colours. I honestly can go on and on…

Which brand do you think is still a secret in the industry but everyone should know about it?

That’s what we love doing at LYNNsteven, exposing new designers to our customers. I think there is some amazing Canadian talent that needs to be on  everyone’s radar such as Ela Handbags & Hoi Bo Bags. Both based in Toronto, these bags showcase amazing craftsmanship and design. We have a  couple of customers who have fallen in love with both brands and are slowly building a collection of their own.  For fall we will be introducing Dagg &  Stacey, which is another Canadian label specializing in beautiful dresses and silk print tops in custom designed patterns.

What look/pieces would you recommend for fall?

A carry over from spring is coloured denim, but for fall look for more muted tones. I love an ombre pair we are getting from DL1961 for holiday.

What is a must have accessory for fall?

Since everyone seems to wear so much black & grey in fall, myself included, I would say an Ela M.I.L.C.K. Clutch is a must. It’s the perfect pop of colour  to any wardrobe, and who says you can’t use a clutch during the daytime?

Fashionistas, grab your purse and walk on over to LYNNsteven, located at 225 Carrall Street. The boutique is open from Monday to Saturday 11am to 7pm.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the new stock, especially the new Mackage Wool Jackets.
