Vancouver is getting 84 bottles of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout on Black Friday

People from all over the country come to Vancouver to explore our vast craft beer scene. But there’s one kind of brew that you just won’t find in the city: Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Stout.

Bourbon County Brand Stout was first brewed back in 1992, in celebration of the 1000th batch of beer brewed at Chicago’s Goose Island Brewery. You’re probably wondering: What makes this brew so special? For starters, it’s the very first of its kind.

Nobody was aging beer in bourbon barrels when Goose Island’s former Brewmaster, Greg Hall, first dreamt up the recipe. Looking around at the craft beer landscape today, you’d be hard-pressed to find another brewery that hasn’t taken a stab at the process. And after all this time, there aren’t many that match Bourbon County Brand Stout’s quality and refinement.

The stout is aged for eight to 12 months in carefully selected bourbon barrels in an environment that lacks temperature control. This detail is incredibly important because it’s the seasonal changes in temperature that cause the beer to be absorbed and desorbed from the wood, maximizing the exchange of flavour and aroma.

Brewers at Goose Island use 100% malt for Bourbon County Stout, and six different malts weighing a total of nearly 5,000 pounds are used in every brewhouse turn. The weather in Chicago is changeable every year and that brings a unique, complex flavour profile of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, and wood to the Bourbon County Stout.

Soon you’ll be able to get a taste of Goose Island’s iconic brew because 84 bottles of Bourbon County Brand Stout 2018 are being released in Vancouver on the most appropriate day: Black Friday, November 23.

To get your hands on a bottle, visit the Liquor Depot at 3415 Cambie Street where doors will be opening at 9 am. Since there are only a limited number of bottles, it’s wise to arrive early as a lineup is expected for this ultimately famed brew.

On the day, Marc Mammoliti, assistant brewer at the Goose Island Brewhouse Toronto will be onsite with Storm City Coffee, talking about the brew and also handing out Goose Island-infused pastries and coffee.

Even if you’re not usually a beer drinker, you’re in for a special treat when Bourbon County Brand Stout arrives in Vancouver. This brew pours the deepest black imaginable with a creamy, tan foam. Loaded with aromas you’d expect to find in a bakery such as chocolate, vanilla, coconut and red licorice, it’s heaven for dessert lovers.
