Every Vancouver bike share station and route (LIVE MAP)

It’s the ultimate map of Vancouver’s new bike share program, Mobi, and the city’s bike routes – and it was all created by a local cyclist in his spare time.

The map shows colour-coded bike routes – separated, lanes or shared – and gives live information on which Mobi stations have bikes and spaces available.

Jens von Bergmann, founder of Vancouver-based data analysis company MountainMath, created the map as part of an “insomnia-driven” side project Mountain Doodles.

Von Bergmann, who rides his own bike every day, told Daily Hive he noticed the official Mobi map was difficult to use on mobile, and lacked information.

“Often bike share maps don’t show bike infrastructure, which seems odd since bike share is targeted in part at people that don’t necessarily bike a lot and may not be familiar with the best ways to get from one place to another by bike,” said von Bergmann.

Mobi only launched a few weeks ago and users will soon have an app to make it easier to find stations with spaces, or bikes, free.

Until then, von Bergmann says, he hopes his map can help.

“We hope their map will also include information about bike infrastructure so that new riders can find a route they will be comfortable on,” said von Bergmann.

“In the meantime, we are hoping that our map will help people to get easy access to the information they need to have an enjoyable bike share experience in Vancouver.”
