The outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery is getting a bit of a facelift.
Fencing has surrounded the North side grounds of the building for the past few days, and construction has commenced to fix waterproofing, maintain trees, and make repairs to the main stairs.
The maintenance is expected to be complete by this fall.
The maintenance is just a temporary fix until the plaza gets redeveloped completely in 2016. That project will create a larger space for events and more landscaping. In 2013, the City of Vancouver revealed three conceptual design options for rebuilding the Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza into a vibrant and welcoming public space.
