The Vancouver Aquarium has launched an app that might help you make better seafood choices.

The free Ocean Wise app allows users to instantly view restaurants, markets, and suppliers in Metro Vancouver that use sustainable seafood practices. There are more than 3,000 Ocean Wise partner locations across Canada.

“Vancouver Aquarium’s new Ocean Wise app provides the latest, science-based sustainable seafood information in an easy format that encourages consumers to choose their seafood wisely,” said Ann-Marie Copping, Vancouver Aquarium Ocean Wise program manager, in a statement.

“From coast to coast, Canadians may download the new Ocean Wise app now for a simple, convenient tool that guides sustainable choices to protect the health of our oceans for generations to come.”

According to the Vancouver Aquarium, the Ocean Wise app will allow consumers to:

  • View up-to-date ocean-friendly seafood recommendations
  • Browse various seafood species
  • Use a GPS map to locate Ocean Wise restaurants, markets, and eateries
  • Browse a full list of all 3,000 Ocean Wise partners

The Ocean Wise program was launched as a response to overfishing, one of the biggest threats to our oceans. The Ocean Wise program now has more than 600 partners across Canada, allowing consumers to make informed choices about sustainable seafood.
