We spent $100 at Value Village and this is what we bought

Imagine being able to rock an expensive look at just a fraction of the price you’d pay in store.

Believe it or not, it’s possible.

Shopping at a thrift store involves lots of concentration, sifting through racks of different clothes in varying sizes – and it’s a lot of fun. To prove it, Daily Hive teamed up with Value Village and chose items based on a budget of just $100. The result? We breezed out of the store with big names in hand like Theory, Steve Madden, Forever 21, Joe Fresh, Aritzia, and more. We even picked up some timeless, vintage gems that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

But this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise seeing as more than 96% of the items sold in store are under $10. Better yet, shopping at Value Village is beneficial for the environment, too. Every year, Value Village keeps over 650,000,000 pounds of reusable items out of landfills.

To prove just how awesome thrift shopping is, we’ve styled some looks so you can see it for yourself.

  • Dress: $17
  • Belt: $3
  • Boots: $15

This dress was only $17 but it makes you feel like a million bucks. You’ll likely see similar looks on the runway this season, and it’s a piece you can take from day to night. Dress it up with some killer boots and a leather jacket to explore downtown on a cooler day. Adding a slim black belt with gold detail to this outfit accentuates your waist and adds that extra bit of dressy class.

  • Skirt: $7
  • Purse: $5
  • Bodysuit: $5

Be the best-dressed when you go out for drinks at one of the city’s hottest rooftop bars. It’s hard not to instantly fall in love with this embellished mid-length, vintage skirt. The skirt is designed with a blue base and silver bead detailing that allows it to shimmer under light. Wearing it with some dressy ankle boots and a plain black bodysuit means you can show off everything the high-waisted skirt was made for. All you need then is a cute, black embellished purse and you’ll shine like a retro style star all evening.

There you have it – you can rock your style on a shoestring budget and feel good about it too, as more than 90% of the clothing and textiles processed by Value Village stores is reused or recycled.

So, the next time you feel like you need an outfit for that special occasion – or even just have the urge to splurge on a new wardrobe – don’t be shy and give thrifting a chance. You’ll be surprised by the amount of compliments you get on your fresh, customized outfits.
